Saffron is a spice derived from the flower of saffron crocus, a pound (0.45 kg) of this spice price about US$500 to US$5000/pound.  And what make this spice so expensive was large amount of flowers required to make a pound of this spice, approximately 50,000 to 75,000 of dry saffron crocus flowers is needed to make a pound of this kind of spice.
Saffron’s aroma is often described by connoisseurs as reminiscent of metallic honey with grassy or hay-like notes, while its taste has also been noted as hay-like and sweet. Saffron also contributes a luminous yellow-orange colouring to foods. Saffron is widely used in Iranian (Persian), Arab, Central Asian, European, Pakistani, Indian, and Turkish cuisines. Confectioneries and liquors also often include saffron.
